Rachel is currently available for commissions. Hurrah!
I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Illustration from the University of Wolverhampton in June 2009. Since then I’ve moved permanently to London, and have been undertaking freelancework, blogging here and for Mindbubble, while working full time as a Graphic Designer, currently at Office Shoes. I’ve also completed a short course for creative graduates at Central St Martins, launched a pop-up shop with HOUSE collective, and started an illustration collective, Tea & Crayons, with 5 others. I’m constantly on the lookout for new projects, new commissions and new clients; I pride myself on being organised and professional, while having as much fun as possible!
With a unique illustration style and solid grasping of graphic design, I also have talents within advertising and marketing, and spotting what’s now, what’s next, and what’s what. I don’t really like the term ‘trend spotter’, instead just enjoying what comes naturally to me. A strong conceptual thinker, with a playful and downright random imagination, whatever I’m lending my skills to. Culture, fashion, new media, music, advertising and the future, all inspire me. I love collaborating with others and knows the sum is always greater than its parts.
Within my illustration work, I create all my images by hand initially, and then feed them into Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create the finished design. I love working within editorial illustration, and also like to deal with current issues, social, political, environmental, as well as drawing food and recipe illustration; that’s always a favourite. I believe strongly in sustainability within design and am concerned with environmental issues in all aspects of our lives. I’m also interested in the relationship between image and text, and the use of typography as image. Working as a graphic designer in a fashion retail company means I know a thing or two about what looks good, on trend, but more to the point, within very short deadlines. I can be relied upon to see the project through to completion within set timescales.
