The Design Museum in London has announced the seven category winners in the Brit Insurance Design Awards, and one of them is Forsman & Bodenfors’ Recipe Book for Ikea. It’s been doing the rounds, but if you haven’t seen it, here are some shots of the spreads:

Which turns into….

It really is very beautiful. And for those who love things nicely ordered, they have an also infographic quality about them. Forsman & Bodenfors say:

“As part of IKEAs kitchen appliance campaign we made a book about baking. It was the perfect way to ensure a connection between IKEAS kitchen appliances and one of the best things you can do in a kitchen: baking. Biscuits, buns and cakes from great traditional swedish recipes. The fact that we let ourselves be inspired by high fashion and japanese minimalism rather than ordinary baking photos with a chequered table cloth in the background just made the project more fun.”

I’d love to see the actual thing, as I’m curious if there’s any text or instructions in there at all. If there’s no directions then it’s less of a recipe book and more of a ‘Before & After’ book really, isn’t it? That’s not taking away from the pure beauty of it, but is it functional? I think they’re only available in Sweden so not sure how i’ll get my hands on one.

Trendcentral has (quite rightly) picked up on the recent rise in popularity of visual cookbooks. They mention a whole raft in this article ‘Color Me Hungry: Visually creative new cookbooks bring recipes to life’ including the wonderful They Draw and Cook, of which I am featured in, available this Autumn.

Of course, I was doing this waaay before all these young upstarts; back in 2008 I illustrated my very own Student Recipe Book. See, total trendsetter.
