It’s no lie that I am ridiculously excited about Tron: Legacy. It’s a bit of a childhood memories thing (Ok I wasn’t born when it came out in 1982) but I watched it when I was younger and loved it. Considering the time, it was a huge technological/cinematic breakthrough. And the story is immense. Let’s just remind ourselves of the awesomeness:

I think what makes it so nostalgic for me now is all the C:// programming stuff and the black screen with green text – for anyone who ever had MS Dos as their main operating system, or even Windows 3.1 (which we had to launch from Dos, ah) will remember all the little codes you had to put in to run stuff. CD backslash and all that. Good times. You kids don’t know what you’ve got!

Jeff Bridges is a legend; so when I heard about Tron: Legacy, probably about a year ago now, I remember thinking ‘Oh god, they’re gonna jazz it up, make it all blockbuster’ – but, they’ve still got Jeff Bridges, still playing Flynn, so that’s saved it for me. And yes, it’s jazzed up, (it’s 3D) – but I guess, how could it not be? Also – a point to note – they’ve done an incredible job of making him look pretty much how he did in 1982 – considering he’s 30 years older now. This movie NEEDED to be made 30 years later, they just couldn’t have done this if it wasn’t 2010.

It’s also got Daft Punk doing the whole of the soundtrack. Play. Now.

It looks amazing. And Michael Sheen! Is there anything this man can’t do? From Brian Clough to Aro… he just gets it spot on.

Very very excited about this film. On a trend-related note, you just watch the blue/white neon influences start creeping into fashion and design any day now…

End of line.
