Designer/High Street collaborations are quite rife these days, so much so that it’s not as big a deal as it used to be. H&M often lead the way (Sonia Rykiel for H&M was my most recent favourite) but of course you’ve got Debenhams with their Henry Holland and Julien McDonald collabs, among others.
So when I first heard about the possible Lanvin/H&M collection, I wasn’t overly excited. I thought it sounded great, but I think I became the victim of collaboration fatigue – too much, that it wasn’t exciting anymore.
Until, finally (after much teasing in the press and blogosphere, a well executed campaign I thought) I glimpsed the clothes themselves.
Oh em gee.
Never has a collection captured the essence of the designer brand quite so much as this one! I seriously love it all. Here is my edit of the top picks from the collection, due to drop at 9am on November 23rd (7am online… FYI)
Let’s start with the t-shirts. They are pretty incredible. This, I think, is my favourite – I love the addition of the bows and the tutu skirt/collar. So out there yet so wearable, I’d put this over PVC leggings and some fur and get out there. I love it so much. And only £29.99 – if I only buy one piece (which, by the way, I’ll have to, being a pauper), then this will be it.
Also really cute and quirky – £24.99. Bargainous.
Onto the shoes. They’ve really outdone themselves and focused not just on the main range of dresses but also the accessories. This pair is my favourite – pushing £70 but then, they are bloody Lanvin. So you can’t really complain. (My bank account could.)
Nothing screams ‘random bag’ more than this. And I love random bag! It randomises any LBD to something beyond the norm. Love. £24.99.
There are many gilets. This one is lovely though – all in black, with the bow – eschews any of that awful ‘boho chic’ that people seem to bandy with the gilet. Boho is dead. Long live Lanvin.
Onto the party dresses. And oh, what dresses – these are absolutely perfect for the Christmas party season (I’m sure that didn’t pass them by…) and all around the £100 mark – expensive for H&M, cheap as chips for a Lanvin dress. I’m blown away actually, by the cut and the detailing. I really want, and I can’t. Depressing. This beautiful one shoulder is £99.99. Ching.
This is the show-stealer though. God. I’d feel so expensive in this. It’s probably the perfect Christmas ball dress, I love the nude top, making it so easy to wear. Very hard to describe how lovely this is. It’s £149.99. It will never be mine.
The ruffles on this and the jewel detailing makes this the perfect cocktail LBD. Yum yum. £99.99.
The other thing I love about this collection is the point of sale! Check out the bags, with the gorgeous illustrations on:
Amazing. do you think they’ll just give me a bag? Heh.
When Lanvin’s exclusive collection for H&M arrives in store on November 23, the absolute essence of Lanvin will be available in around 200 stores worldwide. With separate collections of womenswear and menswear, Alber Elbaz, artistic director of Lanvin,
has created clothing of extraordinary ambition for H&M, bringing the codes of the house to make every single piece identifiably the work of Lanvin. For women there are dresses of breathtaking cut and joyful colour, as well as pieces full of Parisian glamour and
accessories with playful joie de vivre.
“What does luxury mean today? Can luxury be exclusive and democratic at the same time? How can we translate the essence of luxury to a wider audience? The world around us is changing rapidly and I find myself asking these questions more and more.
Designer’s work is usually tailored to a very small group of people, but the collection for H&M was about trying to translate the dream of luxury to the masses. It was almost like going back to school for me.” Alber Elbaz, artistic director of Lanvin.
All photos copyright to H&M and all that. See you in store…. watch out for the scramble =/
