A/W10 Trends: Coveting The Coatigan

I’m not a massive fan of mash-up words… Coatigan sounds a lot like ‘labradoodle’. And if I ever hear anyone say they’ve got one, I’ll smack them in the face and say, no you’ve got a Labrador/poodle cross, not a made up pretend pedigree monstrosity.

And so, if someone had said ‘I’m wearing a coatigan!!!’ I’d prob do the same thing. Smack, no, you’re wearing a thick cardi, as an outdoor coat. Fool.

Then I saw this, and angels sang:

It’s the weirdest looking thing ever, right? And it’s definitely a hybrid. I think the fur is what makes it cross into the coat category, and the fact it’s lined too; but the knit still makes it a cardigan. So it is, in actual fact, a Coatigan. Oh, woe is me.

I bet it’s the warmest thing ever. Only on non-rainy days, of course, with plenty of layers cos there ain’t no buttons. But I somehow love it. The catch? It’s bloody £150. Of course it is, Topshop you whore. I can never justify owning this. (Come onnnn sale)

So I thought, there must be more fur coatigans around. I’m not interested in the long, heavy knits with ties that your mum prob wears, no, I want fur. I want lining. I want a coatigan, damn it!

So after a trawl through Shopstyle, I discovered there are quite a lot of fur cardigans, but they’re all crap. Or the opposite of crap; designer. (Voila, the Alexander Mcqueen Chunky knit fur cardigan, a mere £2,630:)

And even then; yes it’s a cardigan, and fur, the belt is quite good (although belt over cardigan, that’s not really new) but the colours are way wrong, the style is way wrong. Sigh. Faux Fur Front Cardigan With Belt from Next, £50.

So… that’s the end of my search for a fur coati/cardigan for now. I’m doing the shops today for work (research for swing tags, I kid you not) so I’ll keep an eye out. Why, Topshop, why? Why must you put these silly ideas in my head, then whack a massive price tag on it? Oh. I must own that damn coatigan =/
