Last week I went to the iTunes Festival – my 3rd year in a row that I’ve won tickets :) Which makes me very happy. I’m usually lucky at things like this and I’m so glad I got to see these two – neither of whom I’ve seen live before. It was held in the Roundhouse again, where I saw La Roux last year and Death Cab for Cutie the year before (which was in Koko I think?).

She had these heart shaped paddles/aeroplane landing guides? Anyway they lit up and they were amazing.

When she sang ‘Oh No’ she had these cool OHNO glasses – they got handed out but I didn’t get any =/ Shame. Looked cool. I could pull them off.

My favourite part was when she did her little piano-sitting-down section; especially singing ‘Obsessions’. It’s my favourite song on her album, The Family Jewels, I love the lyrics and she sang it beautifully. I couldn’t get over how good her voice was live – and how insanely pretty she is in real life too. Sigh.

Ah, Hollywood. She has lots of great outfit changes, this was no exception. Complete with fake burger and $ sign glasses! I want a varsity jacket (maybe not yellow) and yet she still rocks it. Oh, Marina. How I love thee.

Oh and later she put on this amazingly cute bear-hooded cardigan! I really want to know where she got it from – I’d love to snuggle up in this when the weather gets colder!

And so on to Goldfrapp. They’ve got a fairly new album out, Head First, which I haven’t listened to properly – I like Goldfrapp but I find once you’ve heard one, you’ve sort of heard ‘em all. That’s why I loved Seventh Tree – it was so different. They didn’t play A&E though, and that’s by far my favourite Goldfrapp song – bit disappointing.

Having said that, the set was good, the outfits fantastic and the backdrop… weird. Like a space age doughnut thing. This cardigan-esque thing she was wearing looked like it was made out of bits of cassette tape – weirdly awesome but I bet she was hot!

I really enjoyed it but they did 2 encores. Two?? Really Goldfrapp, one is enough. I definitely enjoyed Marina more; I was enthralled by her set, her voice, her outfits, she was just so much fun. Alison Goldfrapp didn’t really say a lot to the crowd except ‘Thanks’ which does my head in – I prefer when there’s a tiny more audience involvement. She’s got an amazing voice too though, and she’s pretty scary when she gets going.

Scary. This glitter suit was underneath the cassette cardigan, pretty awesome.

It was a really good night, and you can’t complain when it’s free! iTunes have yet again pulled off a brilliant festival this year. Here’s to next year!
