I’ve just spotted this in an email Motel sent me, and just have to talk about it. I normally discard Motel emails; I love the brand but rarely see anything that grabs me and says, You Need This. If I could afford to buy more Motel I would, I’ve got a couple of dresses and they always suit me well. But generally, I shop there rarely.

Well this might change because I’ve seen the Motel Celia Dress and I couldn’t believe my eyes. The print is mind blowing; my instant reaction was ‘That is so Basso & Brooke’ – a myriad of colour and texture, digitally printed. I assume it’s digital printing, it certainly looks complex enough, and Basso & Brooke are well known for pushing the boundaries of textile printing.

It’s a mere £30 and I’m incredibly tempted – it’s my birthday AND payday on friday so I can’t see a reason why not!

Basso & Brooke – SS2010 collection                       /                      Motel

I see a clear source of ‘inspiration’ here, and do you know what, seeing as I can’t afford Basso & Brooke, Motel seem to have done a good job of capturing the same pyschedelic insanity of the prints. There’s always a fine line between inspiration from the catwalks and pure rip-off; but the High Street does it all the time, and I don’t think that will ever change. It’s clearly not the same print or even the same shape, and you know the quality will be lightyears apart, but for capturing the same trend and spirit? Pretty spot on if you ask me.
